SAN GIOVANNI IN MARIGNANO
On the occasion of the summer solstice, which takes place between June 20 and 24, San Giovanni in Marignano celebrates the night of St. John; celebrations evoke magic rituals, spells and mysteries which contribute to give the so-called Night of Witches utmost fascination.
Legend has it that during this night witches gathered to practise sorcery. For many years, this tradition has been celebrated through bustling street markets which are livened up by skilled musicians, dancers and street artists who contribute to convey utmost profusion.

Reservation
It is advised to make bookings by 13:00 on Friday

San Giovanni in Marignano is the gateway to the Valconca Valley and its organisation and development  is based on agriculture. Here, wheat and wine are abundant and of excellent quality.
In the past,  they used to refer to San Giovanni as the “granary of the Malatesta”, because the grain was stored into over 200 underground grain pits below the town. The grain was later distributed throughout the whole settlement.
The town, unlike other villages on level ground, was defended by an imposing building system, in order to protect these storages.
Nowadays, San Giovanni is also home to very important international companies, particularly in the high-fashion industry.

THINGS NOT TO MISS IN SAN GIOVANNI IN MARIGNANO

Municipal Theatre Massari
The building, which seems to date back to the 17th century, was originally the Oratorio della Confraternita del Rosario (Oratory of the Confraternity of the Most Holy Rosary). In 1821,the last tenant, the lawyer Francesco Brilli, turned it into a theatre and founded the amateur dramatic society.
In 1855, it was turned into an Italian horseshoe-shaped theatre with two tiers of boxes, designed by the architect Giovanni Benedettini.

Riviera Horses – Horse Centre
Outside of town, there is a newly renovated horse village, specifically designed for horses and riders. It hosts national and international horse shows for athletes of all categories.
At the disposal of the riders, there are 500 boxes for the competing horses, a horse walker, a round pen, stables, a helicopter landing area and a parking area for vans and campers.
